There are many ways for volunteers to help with the work of The Ark Shelter.

The Ark is looking for responsible volunteers right now for the following tasks:
painting, office/clerical work, dog training, cat socializer, lawn and garden work (needs to be done weekly).

If you are retired, or you just have some extra time on your hands, please consider volunteering at the shelter. You may just find your friend for life. If you are interested in volunteering for any of the tasks listed, please call 546-3484 and ask for Pam. If you get the answering machine, please leave a message.

Volunteers Needed for Ark Exercise Yard!

Our dog exercise yards are situated so that everything runs downhill. This means we can't even put stone in them, as it all washes away with every rain. The yards need to be built up and shored up so that they are level, with drainage that allows water to flow down without taking the soil and stone with it. Sadly, this big undertaking is not within the shelter's budget. MAYBE there is a landscape contractor out there somewhere who would be willing to take on this task for free, possibly with a group of volunteer help. Call the shelter if you can help. Please spread the word. The dogs at the shelter really need those exercise yards.

   

NEEDED NOW:
Volunteers are needed to help with fairs and events. There are many opportunities to represent The Ark, to help educate the public, to increase awareness and support for the shelter. It's a lot of fun, too. Contact the Ark for more info.

Volunteers who like cats, to spend some one on one time with cats who need further socialization with people. This requires patience, and can be very rewarding. Personal contact, on a regular basis, can make a cat more interested in human attention, and increase the likelihood of adoption.

Drivers (The Ark will pay gas) to transport shelter dogs and cats to and from veterinary appointments
It's essential that drivers are reliable when they've agreed to shuttle a pet to/from the vet.

Foster homes for cats and kittens
Foster cats and/or kittens until there is room at the shelter to accept them

Answer the shelter phone.

Karen Curtis does a lot. She has been answering the phone on Tuesday and Thursday for the past 2+ years. She does vet runs, picking up and dropping off animals, and picking up supplies. She has even done vet runs to Portland, and she has done some fostering.

Kelley Fickett fosters kittens or adult cats when we need a foster home. She does vet runs and animal transports when needed, and she is usually available at the drop of a hat. She also makes up lovely posters and gets them out around town.

Coastside Bio Resources is a company in Stonington who consistently donates a nice quantity of their excellent pet supplements to the Ark to help our older cats and dogs.
