Mickey Lives Happily Ever After
Thanks to the generosity of caring and compassionate cat lovers, Mickey, the burned and broken cat determined to live after jumping from a second story window when a devastating fire destroyed his home, is now on the mend and has a forever home where he'll get the life-long care he needs and more love than any cat could want.
Extensive surgery on his shattered pelvis and back legs will require a long healing process, but Mickey takes it all in stride. No layabout, he's up and hobbling around, always ready for a pat or a cuddle. He may never have full mobility, but with a spirit like his, Mickey won't see it as a limitation, just another problem to solve.
The Ark has a special fund to help pets with medical emergencies which their families could not otherwise afford. Because these last two years have been tough on so many families whose pets needed our financial help, our Winston Fund was critically low when we were asked to help fund Mickey's surgeries and extensive vet care.
We asked for the public's help and the response from pets lovers was nothing short of amazing. More than 300 people responded, not only paying for Mickey's vet work, but also replenishing our Winston Fund so other pets can get the emergency veterinary help they need.
If ever a pet in desperate need defines The Ark as the shelter of last resort, Mickey takes the honors. The Ark takes in and gives hope to pets who have run out of options: the strays, the abandoned, the wounded, the elders, the disabled little creatures who have reached the end of the road.
With no federal, state, county or town funding, The Ark exists on the generosity of our donors, not an easy task in these brutal economic times. Because of you, The Ark Animal Shelter has survived, as has Mickey the burn cat. Mickey's indomitable spirit is an inspiration to all of us. We need only follow his lead: no matter how hopeless the situation seems, with courage and determination, a bright spirit will prevail.
