Nico-leeoh/Nico is a Spaniel/Beagle mix. We are guessing her to be around 3 years old, so we gave her a birth date of January 2009. She came to us after her owners tried to say that they found her running, and they didn’t know who she belonged to. But after MUCH questioning they admitted that she wasn’t a stray but their dog, and they just “didn’t want her anymore.” Nico is a lovely girl who prior to coming to our shelter had only been used to have puppies, and she hadn’t ever seen a veterinarian. Now spayed, and up to date on her vaccines, Nico just wants a home where she will be loved unconditionally. Nico enjoys going for walks and car rides. She also likes to snuggle up next to you. Since her owners were less than honest with their information we don’t know how Nico would be with smaller children. So to ere on the safe side, she will need a home with out small children. Nico gets along with male dogs, but not the females. She would like a home with no cats, and a male dog that she can pal around with.

Max is a neutered Golden Lab/Husky mix. He was born February 25, 2011, so he is just one year old. Max has a lot of energy, and loves going for long walks or hikes as long as they are kept low key. He is also a very good passenger while sight seeing in the car. Max is house trained, and looking for a home without small children or other dogs. Before coming to our shelter Max had no consistent training. Although he knew the basic “sit” command, he couldn’t sit still for more than a second at a time. His tail is always wagging, as he is such a happy go lucky kind of guy. Max is currently enrolled in a 2 week in home obedience training course. We want Max to be the perfect gentleman, or as perfect as he can be, given his love for action. Max currently weighs approx. 67 pounds, and could easily top off at 75-80 pounds once in top physical condition. Max is eager to find a loving home where he will always be included in the action. As of March 30, Max has completed his in home basic training. The trainer has given us a better idea of what kind of home Max is looking for. Max needs a home without cats. The best home for him would be a calm low key home. If he lives in a home where the energy level is at a continual or consistent high, Max will always be "amped up." He now knows your basic commands, 'sit', 'down','heel', & 'off.'

Molly is a 4-year-old German Shepherd born around April 2008. She was recently spayed, and when tested, she is positive for Heartworm, which she is currently being treated for.Molly’s prior background history has a lot of unknowns. She came to us after being purchased by an elder couple through an ad in Uncle Henry’s. Molly was too much for this couple with multiple health issues, so they contacted our shelter for help. Prior to her short stay with them, she lived in NH since at least Christmas.Molly is very people oriented. She seems to like everyone. Molly is an alpha female, so she can’t live with other female dogs. We have not yet evaluated her with male dogs. She is also looking for a home without cats. Molly is a lovely Shepherd, with your typical Shepherd traits. She has a normal prey drive, which makes her not good with small critters, and she likes to know where her people are most of the time. She walks very well on a lead, and she loves going for rides in the car. Because she has been in at least 3 other homes that we know of, Molly has some separation anxiety. She is also thin because she “worries” her wait off. Once she is in a stable home with a consistent routine, she would settle down and make a wonderful companion.Molly is looking for a home with people that have a knowledgeable background of German Shepherds. Molly knows some basic obedience commands such as “sit”, “down”, and she will give you her paw. Molly’s treatment for heartworm will continue for quite some time. We can discuss those treatments and arrangements with an approved Shepherd home.

Scrappy is an 8 year old neutered Chihuahua born in April 2004. He came to the shelter with tubby, but he doesn’t need to be placed with him. Scrappy has his own personality, and if we were to place them in a home together neither dog would have their true personality shine through. Scrappy loves to play with toys, and he is a bouncy outgoing guy, with a lot to say about life. Like Tubby, he loves to go for walks on leash. He loves to be picked up and carried around, as most small dogs do. But we really like to see him with all four feet on the floor as he struts his stuff as if to say, “hey, look at me, I’m the handsome one. Scrappy does get along with other dogs, but we get the feeling he would like to be a one and only spoiled child. He is a must meet in order to truly appreciate his confident personality.

Tubby is a 4 year old neutered Chihuahua, born April 24, 2008. Tubby traveled to us all the way from Idaho when his family was forced top move across country with 2 other dogs and a cat. Sadly for reasons beyond the families control only one dog was able to stay with the family. Tubby is great around children 7 years and up. He is playful and affectionate. He loves to go for walks on leash, and completely enjoys a ride in the car, even after his cross country adventure. Tubby gets along well with other dogs (that are small dog friendly), and he is also good with dog friendly cats. Tubby is housetrained, and will also use wee wee pads when the weather is inclement. He like to have his belly rubs, and snuggling with people who love him.

Mr. Benjamin or Benny as he is fondly called is a neutered Peekapoo, who is approx.. 10 to 12 years old. He is currently in a foster home, and has not entered our shelter. We are simply posting him to help his foster mom find him a home. Benny likes everyone he meets. He is good with children, but he would prefer a home without children full time. He is good with other dogs and cats as long as they don’t try to “share” his food while he is eating. His foster mom said he is great in the home while you are there, but when she goes out she kennels him because he has some levels of separation anxiety. He will go right in his kennel, but he will bark because he doesn’t like to be left alone. Benny is deaf, so he can’t be off leash and he LOVES to go for walks. It’s good to have a bell on his collar so that you know where he is while in the house. A fenced yard would be a huge plus for this guy. For more information please contact RENEE 479-2967.

Cheyenne is a 10 year old Lab/Newfy mix born sometime in 2002. Cheyenne came to The Ark in 2004 and found a loving home. But her owner recently died unexpectedly, and she found herself homeless. When the shelter found out about Cheyenne’s dilemma we immediately contacted the holding facility and made arrangements to bring her back to the shelter. The first order of business for Cheyenne was to get her checked out by a veterinarian. Although a bit overweight, and having a few fatty lumps, Cheyenne is in good health for her age. We had to shave her coat because it was very matted. The first week was a little rough for her as she didn’t understand what had happened and why she was taken from her home of 8 years. But she has settled in nicely, and enjoys the routine. Cheyenne loves to go for rides in the car. Once you take her out for a walk she gets a gleam in her eye and a hop in her step, as she wags her tail and enjoys the fresh air. Cheyenne would like a home with adults since she had never been around small children. She is house trained and will bark to let you know that someone has come to the door. She likes to play with toys, and will fetch a ball if you have another to give her in exchange. She is currently on a diet to loose a few of those extra pounds.

My name is Webster and I am looking for a forever home. I am a pure bred miniature schnauzer approx. 6 1/2 years old. My registered name is Superior Zooming Webster! I was in a crate and bred for my first 5 years. I then lived with some older folks who couldn't really take care of me correctly.Though I am a bit skittish at first, and shy, I have improved greatly. I am sweet and hungry for attention, affection, touch, and love. I walk on a lead just fine but passing vehicles scare me, so care is required when we walk and the lead is always required on busy walkways.I am absolutely fine in the yard and in places where we can remove the lead to give me freedom to run around. I am fine with other cats and other dogs, but sometimes get jealous of the dog I live with now – no aggression, I just want more attention! I love to curl up on the couch or a comfy chair, take naps with other dogs, cats, and people. I am crate-trained and feel secure there.I go to the office sometimes. I am quiet and sleep in my bed and take walks on breaks – a very good office dog. I ride in the car fine in my travel crate, it seems cozy and safe. Sometimes I bark - usually when someone is approaching the door to the house and I don't know who it is – but I quiet readily once I see who it is.I have learned to ask to go out and am mostly house trained now. I do have some accidents though and I am working on that. My new family has bathed and groomed me a couple of times, which is fun. I am neutered, and all my shots, etc. are up to date. I use advantix, too. I have a skin condition that makes me chew my feet sometimes, but a cortizone shot now and again alleviates this for months at a time.I am looking for a good home where I can get the ongoing attention, love, and care I deserve!
