Donate a BedWe use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals who come to the shelter looking for homes don't bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets' ages. Sometimes we don't. So we make our best guess by the condition of their teeth. Sometimes we are fooled. We ask that if you are concerned about the age of the pet you adopt, you take the pet to your veterinarian for the vet's best educated guess.

Adoption fees are waived for pets eight years and older adopted by senior citizens 60 years and older with the Ark’s "Golden Years" program. The "Golden Years" dogs are included on the "dogs" pages, or click here for a special page listing all the "Golden Years" pets.

Ark dog AlfredALFRED was found as a stray on a bitterly cold night, badly matted and in need of a good meal and a bath! To our surprise, even with an amateur haircut given here at the shelter, Alfred turned out to be a gorgeous, mocha-colored Cocker, with an absolutely lovely temperament.
The vet thinks Alfred is around ten years old, but you'd never know it from his energy level. He LOVES to go on walks full speed ahead, and his little docked tail never stops wagging. Because his energy is so much that of a younger dog, it took us a couple of weeks to figure out that he does not hear well. Now that we know this, we've adjusted his training accordingly, and he does a great sit for a treat! Alfred will make the right person a wonderful companion. He is a Golden Years pet (no adoption fee for seniors.) Click on his photo for a larger view, and more information.

Ark dog AmberAMBER is a lovely, eight year old golden/collie/retriever mix with soulful brown eyes who was surrendered because she did not get along with a younger dog in her home. A grown-up girl with good manners, she occasionally displays a great sense of humor, throwing herself on her back in a snowbank and wiggling around like a puppy. She knows basic training commands, and enjoys training, especially the treats! In the right home, Amber will be a wonderful, calm companion who enjoys her sofa time with a favorite human. She is a Golden Years pet (no adoption fee for seniors).

Ark dog DukeDUKE is a two year old, neutered Border Collie/Shepherd mix with everything to recommend him. He's an 80 pound, friendly, sweet guy who gets along with other dogs, gets along with cats, and loves kids, especially if they'll play with him. He likes to go for walks on lead, and he enjoys car rides. Duke knows basic obedience, but it matters not if he's running free. He'll make his own fun outside, tooting off for an adventure whenever an opportunity arises. Border Collies and Shepherds, i.e., working dogs, are not couch potatoes–they need activity–and Duke is no exception. He's quiet in the house (unless you are willing to play with him and his toys), but he needs consistent, supervised exercise. A home with active folks and a fenced yard would be the ideal.
