ARK ANIMAL SHELTER SERVICES

ADOPTION SERVICES

To enhance their chances for adoption, the animals at The Ark receive individual attention, socialization, training and evaluation, giving us the chance to observe and correct any problems that might arise before the animal is adopted. The socialization program at the Ark creates a less stressful transition for the animals when they go to their new permanent homes. A personality profile is kept for each animal, helping us answer any questions an adoptee might have. All animals ready for adoption have received check-ups, have been given temporary vaccinations against diseases and have been wormed, groomed and checked for external parasites.

HOME FINDING PROGRAMS

The Ark maintains an aggressive home-finding program. Sponsored by specific donations from our members or other caring individuals, "Find a Friend for Life" ads featuring one or more Ark animals in need of permanent homes are placed in local papers. Additionally, some newspapers donate space for listing the animals at The Ark waiting to be adopted and some radio stations donate air time. We use public bulletin board space covering a two county area. We also keep a file of animals waiting for loving homes, as well as a file on animals lost and found. Our list of breed specific rescue groups helps us find homes for the many purebreeds who come to us. The Ark maintains a quality relationship with other animal shelters, groups and individuals, all working for a common cause. Through this spirit of cooperation, both the animals who depend on us and the public who looks to us for assistance, can be assured that they will receive the best we have to offer.

EDUCATION AND INFORMATION

The Ark works to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. We provide free informational and pet care brochures to individuals, schools, clubs and civic groups. We also publish a newsletter several times a year. In conjunction with operating the animal shelter, we are active in area schools conducting innovative humane education programs reaching hundreds of children every year. The Ark also operates "The Animals Lending Library", a resource available to students and the general community. The library offers books on a wide range of animal related topics in addition to scholarship and contest information for students from grade school to college. With an extensive list of pet care related facilities and animal welfare organizations (domestic and wild) at our fingertips, we help many people each day who call The Ark for assistance.

STOPPING PET OVERPOPULATION

With our major emphasis on an effective plan for spay/neuter operations, we hope to break the vicious cycle perpetuating so many thousands of unwanted animals. In addition to our policy of spaying or neutering all pets for adoption, our Stitch in Time program offers financial help to families who could not otherwise afford the full cost of spaying or neutering their pet. It is funded by caring individuals contributing specifically to the Stitch in Time program.

THE WINSTON FUND

The Winston Fund is a special account set up to cover emergency care for injured animals, such as surgery to repair a broken leg, or veterinary medical care for a specified illness. These are circumstances we cannot cover with our regular funds allotted for vaccines, worming and spay/neuters. The money is provided by donations made specifically to The Winston Fund from caring individuals or groups.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Ark is a non-profit organization solely dependent on donated funds for financial support. All contributions go directly to aid animals in need. Without your contribution to keep The Ark afloat, homeless animals now being rescued will face a grim and most likely very short future. Without aggressive spay/neuter programs such as those offered through The Ark, the cycle of breeding more unwanted litters to become victims of abuse and neglect will continue unabated. As a member of The Ark and friend to the animals, you can be assured that you are helping to end the suffering of abused, neglected and unwanted animals. The animals need your help now!
